Animal Stories & Signs, Reiki and Energy Work

September 5, 2025

This morning, my dachshund was curled up like a cinnamon roll at my feet, and two of my cats had claimed the sunny patch spilling across the floor. They do this almost every time I begin a Reiki session—even when the person I’m working with is hundreds or thousands of miles away. It’s as if they feel the shift before I even notice it myself, quietly moving closer like they’ve been waiting for the moment the energy begins to flow.

People sometimes ask, “How does Reiki work if the person isn’t in the room?” I think about prayer—how you can hold someone in your heart from far away and still feel it matter. Or how Wi-Fi and Bluetooth carry signals invisibly, connecting the right devices without us ever seeing the threads between them. Reiki moves in much the same way—across distance, across time, and beyond anything our eyes can measure.

Reiki can do no harm. It always works for the highest good, whether the recipient is a person, an animal, a relationship, a situation, or even an event. In a distant session, Reiki can be sent to support a loved one across the world, to ease the emotional weight of a memory from years ago, or to gently prepare the energy of a future moment you’re moving toward. It can be offered to a job interview, a medical appointment, a challenging conversation, or a home you’re about to move into. It can also be sent to those who have passed, surrounding them—and you—with comfort.

In second-degree Reiki, we learn the distance symbol—an opening into the truth that Reiki can be sent not only across miles but also into moments of the past or future. Sending Reiki to the past isn’t about erasing what happened—it’s about bringing peace to how those moments still live within you. And sending to the future is like planting seeds in the soil of time, nurturing the outcome you hope to grow.

One of the most beautiful things about Reiki is that you don’t have to believe in it for it to work. The energy travels through intention, much like a prayer sent across the miles, or a song broadcast on a frequency you can’t see but can feel. We’re more connected than we realize—our lives are woven together in an unseen grid of energy, and Reiki flows effortlessly through it.

When we work together, we begin by setting a clear intention — perhaps for physical relief, emotional release, clarity, or a sense of deep peace. You might feel warmth, tingling, a deep sense of calm… or simply a quiet shift you can’tquite explain. I hold the container, allowing Reiki to move where it’s most needed, whether that’s soothing a current challenge or gently untangling threads from the past.

And yes — my own little Reiki “assistants” are usually nearby. My dachshund curls up close, and the cats lounge quietly in the room, part of the peaceful energy we’re creating together.

With love,

P.S. The same peaceful energy my little furry Reiki assistants sense is available to you—whether in a distant session, an in-person visit, or one of my certification classes. I offer both in-person and online classes, and you’re welcome to reach out so we can see what’s currently available.
